BUSINESS PRACTICE MANAGER

Our business practice manager, Marion Watson, is responsible for the administration of the practice. She would be happy to hear your views and suggestions about the service offered by the practice.

RECEPTIONISTS

Our receptionists at Knebworth Surgery and at our branch surgery in Stevenage will handle any enquiries, answer your telephone calls and make appointments. Please remember that the receptionist's job is demanding but they are here to provide a polite, efficient and caring service.

The surgery has a self-service touch screen, which all patients will need to use when checking in for their appointment(s).

The reception staff may occasionally need to ask for some medical details to assess urgency. If they feel that your enquiry could be dealt with by speaking to a doctor or one of our 'specialist nurses' on the telephone, they will arrange this; all information will be treated with complete confidentiality. It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patients' records be maintained at the highest level by ALL staff.

PRACTICE NURSES

The practice nurses offer a variety of general nursing services, which are by appointment only, including:

• Dressings • Removal of sutures • Ear syringing
• Well person check • Cervical smear test • Adult immunisations
• New patient medicals • Routine injections • Dietary advice
• ECGs and hearing tests • Smoking cessation • General Health Check

We also have a nurse prescriber who can see patients for chronic disease management and prescribe for such conditions. She can also undertake medication reviews to save you having to see a doctor.

In addition, we have a specialist trained nurse practitioner who can provide treatment / advice for which you would have previously needed to see a doctor. Our nurse practitioner can assess, examine, make a diagnosis, provide advice, treatment, undertake medication reviews, make referrals to hospital doctors/healthcare professionals and admit patients to hospital.

When you book an appointment with one of our practice nurses, please inform reception of the reason for the appointment so that appropriate time can be allocated to you.

COMMUNITY NURSING SERVICES

There is a team of district nurses who support our surgery and provide nursing care in the patient's own home. They also advise relatives and carers on how to nurse the patients between visits, encouraging independence and liaising closely with your GP regarding relevant treatment. They can also give advice on other services that you may require.

The team offer care 365 days of the year during the hours of 9.00 am - 5.00 pm and evenings 6.30 - 11.00 pm.

You or your relatives may contact the district nurses during surgery opening times.

ATTACHED COMMUNITY HEALTH VISITORS

There is a team of health visitors who are attached to the surgery who give advice and support to all families with children under five years old. They also work with all age groups discussing any problems affecting their physical health, emotional stress and bereavement.

COUNSELLOR

We have our own counsellor attached to the practice, who sees patients referred by the doctors for relationship problems, bereavement, teenage and psychosexual problems. It is possible that at times patients may self-refer.
